Note: I conducted this wine website SEO audit as a case study to help wine businesses identify the “invisible” technical barriers that often stifle specialized wine brands. I’ve shared these findings with the team at Central Wines privately to support their growth, and I am publishing this distilled version here to help other specialists protect their own digital presence.
Adam Michocki is a Master Sommelier candidate and IWSC judge. With Central Wines, he is bringing high-quality Polish wines to the UK.
But while the wine is great, the website has technical gaps. These issues act as a “muffler” on Adam’s expertise—slowing down the site for mobile shoppers, hiding his tasting notes, and showing security warnings to potential customers.
Despite this, Central Wines is already appearing on the first page of Google for several key search terms — a strong signal that the brand’s authority is recognised. The problem is that technical errors are acting like a lead weight on that authority, preventing the site from converting the visibility it has already earned.
This report identifies five technical barriers currently limiting the site’s growth and the roadmap to fix them.
1. The “Security Alarm” (SSL Error)
When a customer visits centralwines.co.uk, they are sometimes met with a red warning screen before they even see a bottle of wine.

The Problem: Most modern browsers now require a secure connection (https). Because the settings for the .co.uk address aren’t correctly synced with the store, the browser triggers a “Connection Not Private” warning. This is the ultimate trust-killer.
The Fix: You need to verify the domain in the store’s backend and ensure the SSL certificate is active for the root domain. I handle these DNS conflicts as part of my Specialized Wine SEO Audit to ensure your “front door” stays open, secure, and professional from day one.
2. Claiming the Primary Domain (URL Redirects)
During my Central Wines wine website SEO audit I noticed that even when the site works, the address bar changes from centralwines.co.uk to central-wines.myshopify.com as soon as a customer clicks a link.
The Problem: The store is currently using the platform’s default address rather than being fully configured to Adam’s own branded URL. This makes a premium boutique look like a temporary popup store, diluting Central Wines brand.
The Fix: The .co.uk address needs to be set as the “Primary Domain” in the store settings with the redirect option enabled. Through my Long Term Wine SEO Partnership, I make sure your brand—not your platform—reaps the rewards of your traffic by keeping customers on your domain through the entire checkout.
3. The “Identity Crisis” in Search Results: Why Wine SEO Matters.
Even when a customer finds the site on Google, they aren’t seeing Adam’s wine descriptions.

The Problem: If a site doesn’t provide a short summary for Google, the search engine grabs “legal” or “menu” text from the bottom of the page instead. This is why a search for the Silesian Piesecco currently shows a “Cancellation Policy” instead of tasting notes.
The Fix: You must manually write and set the “Meta Description” for every product. I can help you with this through a Wine SEO Content Marketing Strategy, ensuring the first thing a customer reads is your sommelier expertise rather than a legal disclaimer.
4. Missing Digital Price Tags (Schema)
Online, Google uses a specific code (called “Schema”) to show prices and ratings directly in search results.
The Problem: Testing the site shows it is missing this code. Because Google cannot “read” that these pages are bottles for sale, Adam’s customer ratings and prices don’t appear in search results. You might think it’s a small detail, but in the cut-throat world of search competition, this often marks the difference between making a sale and falling into oblivion.
The Fix: You need to inject “Product Schema” into the website’s theme code to act as a translator for search engines. I implement this structured data for you as part of my core Wine SEO Services so that your digital storefront is as well-labeled and enticing as a physical wine shelf.

5. Slow Mobile Loading: The Technical Architecture of a Wine Website SEO Audit.
A website that takes too long to open loses the customer before they even see a bottle.
The Problem: Tests show the site takes nearly 5 seconds to load on a phone, usually caused by large image files. In a competitive market, this delay turns customers away before the page even renders.
The Fix: All images must be compressed and “lazy loading” enabled so the page only loads what is on the screen. I focus on the technical architecture required to remove this friction, making the site faster for your customers and much more likely to be ranked highly by Google.
Conclusion: Let the bottles speak for themselves
Central Wines doesn’t have a wine problem — it has a visibility problem. The brand authority is there. The product is there. Google already knows it exists. But every day the security warnings stay live, and the search snippets show cancellation policies instead of tasting notes, the site is actively working against the reputation Adam has built.
A few targeted fixes are the difference between a site that looks the part and one that performs like it.
